Massage and Manual Therapy

Massage is the manipulating of superficial

and deeper layers of muscle, and

connective tissue using various

techniques, to enhance function, reduce

spasm, reduce pain, aid in the healing

process, relieve stress, improve blood flow, reduce swelling, promote

relaxation and well-being.

Physiotherapists will always ask about your medical history before performing any massage due to contraindications. These include deep vein thrombosis, bleeding disorders or taking blood thinners such as Warfarin, damaged blood vessels, weakened bones from cancer, osteoporosis, or fractures, bruising and fever.

Hands-on treatment can give instant results, or may take a few sessions to feel the full benefits, depending on the cause and duration of your symptoms. Massage can be used before or after sporting events or to ease general tightness and stiffness. Often our physiotherapists can use massage therapy to get to the root cause of an underlying musculoskeletal issue so if you are having regular massage sessions which dont seem to be easing your symptoms for long then come and see us so we can help not only offer relief, but also manage your symptoms.
